The Lion of Wisdom Meditation Center

The new Meditation Center on the hill

Hi Friends,
Since leaving Brasil I have been staying at the new, Pannasiha, 'Lion of Wisdom' Meditation Center, a forty five minute drive from Washington DC. It is a large seven bedroom house on three acres of land amidst the rolling hills and farmland near Damascus, Maryland. It was purchased by Bhante M. Dhammasiri and the Washington Buddhist Vihara. I was asked to be the director and the principal meditation teacher there. The combined Vesak and opening ceremony of the new center was held on May 21st. However, the house still needs some repair and renovations before it is suitable for holding short retreats and accomodating overnight guests. Starting next April hopefully I will begin conducting A Day of Mindfulness, as well as short weekend retreats. We hope to be able to accomodate persons for personal retreat periods also. It is still a work in progress. There is a new website for the center:www.lionwisdom.org. You can keep checking it from time to time for updates. At some point in the future there may be a facebook page.
Below are some photos of the center and the Vesak/opening ceremony.

There is no meditation without Wisdom,
No wisdom without meditation,

Meanwhile, I am off on a four month teaching tour to Germany and India.
May all beings have the opportunity to hear the Dhamma and practise meditation to help free their minds from confusion and suffering.

  1. Blessings Bhante,
Pictures are great! Of course I am very much interested in the current ones here of the meditation hall, and of it, now, I get the scale and breadth of the window(s)behind the beautiful and effective Buddha statue that you've mentioned in yr plan to organize and make further practical utilization/innovation of this space. Main gist of contacting you here at this point is that I hve procured my brother's gifted truck, withall the necessary State paper-work and tags
etc. valid and in place, as of yesterday... so I will be emailing Bhante later in the day with follow up and requests for more information regarding the work that you want done as well as any measurements and data that would help in being prepared, etc.Looking forward!
    Sincerely,
    Frank D. Walsh

  2. I just realized I may have confused the directions you discussed after the Vipassana with yoga retreat at Bhavana Society but now I ve corrected myself here... Bhante was, is addressing the side windows in the picture above not the back windows! Peace... Frank W.

  6. Bhante Rahula,

Thanks for the great workshop at Bhavana 7/25. Great informationas well as reminders for me regarding breath and sitting postures. Was checking out your website and became confused when I see a number of comments from entries speaking of sexual matters, feel good services and call girl availability in various locations of the world. Wondered if you were aware of these entries? If I didn't know you from Bhavana I would immediately drop any further investigation of your center due to the nature of what I see on the comment site. Just wanted you to know this information is present if you are not aware of such. Thanks again for a great retreat. With Metta, Georganne :)
